Spring Update

Vince Williams broke his leg and will be out 4-6 weeks. The injury was ill-timed as Williams and Smith looked to battle for the started MLB position this spring. While Smith may get a leg up, Williams is an experienced senior who played well in 2011, and will be rotating with Smith all off season, and potentially through the 2012 season.

Kelvin Benjamin will be one of the most intriguing players to watch this spring, and certainly will have an opportunity to battle for playing time this coming season. Benjamin has looked good in spring practice, but there are still a few questions surrounding the freakish sized receiver and Seminole fans will see how far he has come in

Plantation (Fla.) HS cornerback Sojourn Shelton is committed to Florida State and is set to fulfill a childhood dream. The 5�9, 160-pound prospect talked about his commitment to the �Noles.

�Real good,� said Shelton about his feelings towards FSU. �It has been my dream school since I was a kid in south Florida. My family was divided between Florida and Miami and the younger generation was on the Florida State side. So, I just grew up a Nole.�

While he is happy that he is a Florida State commit, he does have several concerns.

Defensive back Simeon Thomas was playing on the South Florida Express team during last weekend�s IMG 7-on-7 tournament. He played corner, at 6�4 and 190-pounds, and helped lead them to an undefeated record. The two-sport athlete is very athletic and has put on quality weight over the last few months.

�LSU, Alabama, Miami, Georgia, UCF and Virginia Tech,� are some of the colleges Thomas listed as interests. He went on to talk more about the schools that he likes.

Defensive back Leon McQuay lll helped lead his team, the Seffner (Fla.) Armwood Hawks, to a state championship last season. He is quickly becoming one of the most recruited prospects in the Sunshine State and has plenty of options to choose from.
